AFTER sustained presence in Namibia over the past 23 years, DHL Namibia has invested substantially intermodal in new premises to the tune of N$10 million over a period of five years. ?This investment is vital for the maintenance and growth of our current operations,? says Mr Deon Landman, Country Manager of DHL Namibia.
?The Namibia intermodal operation is unique because we have all three operations under one roof,? explains Landman. ?As an example, the IMPC is the only operation of its kind on the African continent and one of only seven worldwide. A large area of the new building is dedicated to the smooth operation of the IMPC,? he concludes.
Since opening their doors in Namibia in 1988, the number of staff at DHL has increased tenfold to 46 full time employees of whom 45 are Namibians or have permanent residence in the country. DHL operates a fleet of 13 DHL branded delivery vehicles and its own plane, which operates the Windhoek-Johannesburg route from Eros Airport.
The new DHL office has been built to international standards and the total surface area of 1547 m is thrice as big as the previous office. The new premises fully enhance the safety and security features intermodal for which DHL is known globally. The building has been fitted with 30 security cameras and two security access points throughout the premises. This ensures a secure environment in which all shipments are managed.
The facility has wheelchair friendly amenities and, in line with the ?Go Green? thrust of DHL worldwide, the new facility boasts a solar geyser on the roof, an eco-friendly garden with low water usage and an energy efficient electrical plan; comprising two ?kill? switches at staff exit points. Each ?kill? switch is connected to internal distribution boxes, intermodal enabling the last person in the building to turn off all lights from the one single point.
