The airline Korean Air is about to order from Boeing 747-8i five, six 777-300ER and 787-9 Dreamliner additional to modernize its fleet and meet growing demand.
No official announcement of the estimated $ 3.7 billion at list prices and tipped contract since last June, but the national company based in South Korea Airport Seoul - Incheon noted in a statement to financial regulators after obtaining the approval of the Board. Korean Air already waiting ten 747-8i michael angelakos from 2015 (it operates 3 of the 10 747-8F freighter purchased), and ten 787-9 (formerly 787-8) should join the fleet next year. It already operates twelve 777-300ER michael angelakos and expects 8 more, some leased.
The choice of the 747-8i by the company of the SkyTeam alliance will particularly enjoy Boeing, who had just announced the production slowdown for the latest version of its jumbo. Despite this further decline after a first in April, the manufacturer is confident in its 747-8 program, which recorded 107 orders (passenger and cargo) and was delivered to 54 copies. Korean Air will use to replace an equivalent number 747-400 2017, about 35 in use today.
Recall that if the fleet is mainly composed of Boeing company michael angelakos also operates 23 Airbus A330 (200 and 300 versions) and especially seven of the ten A380 purchased, the eighth to be delivered before the end of the year and the other two in 2014. Korean Air has also placed an order for ten Bombardier CS300 (ten purchase rights).

Go AF, a little effort! Do not skip this legendary aircraft. Advanced part of the 787 was made there and the fuel savings are there compared to 747-400, it would be a shame to spend even just for prestige. I dream of seeing a first-class 747-8i AF, that Lufthansa is superb!
Totally agree with you! Just for arguments you gave, I would take for an upcoming Lufthansa long-haul flight to test their 747-8! LH and website dedicated to this beautiful unit is just awesome! michael angelakos AF should take a leaf!
I saw a 747-8 Lufthansa just parked at the airport, I have not had the opportunity to fly aboard ... blah ... 747 seems aesthetically dated me, angular, where the A380 seems more modern and rounded.
I do not agree with you. I also had the chance michael angelakos to see a Lufthansa park and I think aesthetically, this is by far the most beautiful airliner which was built. I also like "Nick" and others, I would like to see integrated fleet of Air France, just a few not necessarily much, but hey, I think for Air France and other airlines, the aircraft was unfortunately his time. It's a shame.
I do not know if the new version has improved comfort issue. Because my recollection is that the 747-400 is really dated compared to the A380 and 777 to the noise level and pressurization (ouch, ouch, ouch) Anyone know if the cabin is 747-8 improved at these levels?
747-8
To answer "redeye" I have traveled several times with the 747-8i LH, it is very comfortable and quiet! It's a plane of a different generation than the 400
